In 2023, HFI launched its "Diabetes Iwasan! Diabetes Pag-aralan!" campaign in Batangas

In 2023, Health Futures Foundation, Inc. (HFI) launched its “Diabetes Iwasan! Diabetes Pag-aralan!” campaign in eight (8) Alay sa Ginhawa at Kalusugan (ALAGA KA) areas in the province of Batangas. The campaign was launched to kick-start the initiatives on diabetes awareness and prevention in the ALAGA KA areas in Batangas namely barangays of Pansol in Taal; San Jose and Dalima in Tuy; Luya and Bonliw in San Luis, Concordia in Alitagtag; Mabilog na Bundok in Lobo; and Bungahan in Cuenca.

Stakeholders of the Diabetes Awareness and Prevention Initiatives

The campaign included the following activities:
– Installation of Diabetes Corner
– Information videos on diabetes awareness and prevention
– Showdown of Original Indigenous Healthy Recipes by Health Cluster Groups
– Exercise Showcase using Original Dance Moves by Health Cluster Groups
– Diabetes Awareness and Prevention through ART – Poster making on diabetes prevention for 7-17 years old
– Free blood sugar testing and Diabetes counseling
– Barangay Health Workers’ and Health Cluster Leaders’ Training on How to Use the Diabetes Corner
– Distribution of Low Glycemic Brown Rice
– Ampalaya Seedlings Distribution
– Distribution of Masustansiyang Plato (Healthy Plate) plates and coasters
– Community Group Exercises

Around 370 people attended the campaign in the eight (8) ALAGA KA areas, composed of representatives from the Local Government Unit, Rural Health Unit, Barangay Local Government Unit, community health workers, patients with diabetes and their families, community members at risk, cluster groups, and the youth. Indirectly, the campaign will benefit a total of about 11,000 people from the eight (8) barangays.
