Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) and community members have expressed their continuous struggle with power outages in ALAGA KA Health Stations. Outages are due to electrical supply issues and extreme weather brought by climate change. Consequently, these have brought discomfort in the communities, and at worse healthcare services were interrupted.
Health Futures Foundation, Inc. (HFI), in partnership with Direct Relief, installed hybrid solar power systems in Barangay Health Stations (BHS) in Tarlac and Nueva Ecija. This will ensure the continuous delivery of primary healthcare services in ALAGA KA Barangay Health Stations (BHS).
The solar power system will not only serve as a green and efficient energy source, but will also provide electricity to the BHS for at least three (3) days during disasters, supply chain issues, and emergencies. Moreover, the installed solar power systems also aim to respond to the call of sustaining climate-resilient Barangay Health Stations in disaster-prone communities.
In February 2026, HFI installed solar power systems in four (4) ALAGA KA Barangay Health Stations (BHS), namely in:
- Bigbiga, Mayantoc, Tarlac
- Maasin, Pura, Tarlac
- San Vicente, San Manuel, Tarlac
- Recuerdo, Nampicuan, Nueva Ecija
Creating Luminous Impact through Solar Power

The installed solar power system in each Barangay Health Station includes a set of roof solar panels, and a set of an inverter, and a battery. The solar power systems are a hybrid setup. It serves as the primary electricity source in the BHS with a total capacity of 5,000 watts.

After the installation and testing of the solar power systems, community members were oriented and trained on the basic operations, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the solar power systems.

“It is a big help to us now that we have a solar power system installed in the barangay health station (BHS). Even if Barangay Maasin loses electrical power, the BHS still has a power source.” (Sa ngayon naman po na may solar power system na ang aming BHS ay malaking tulong din po. Mawalan man po ng power ang buong barangay, ang BHS ay may pinagkukunan pa rin ng kuryente.), Virginia Belmonte, a Barangay Health Worker (BHW) in Maasin, shared after the installation of the solar power system in their barangay.
Ultimately, the solar power systems will benefit around 6,000 community members of the four (4) barangays in the provinces of Tarlac and Nueva Ecija.
