HFI and Sun Life Foundation is constructing eight barangay health stations in Batangas this 2020.

In partnership with Sun Life Foundation, HFI is constructing barangay health stations (BHS) and implementing the Community-based Health and Wellness Program (CBHWP) in eight (8) selected barangays in Batangas this 2020.

Since the project’s launch last May 2020, HFI has identified 8 barangays belonging to 3rd to 5th class municipalities in Batangas namely Concordia in Alitagtag, Bungahan in Cuenca, San Gregorio, in Laurel, Mabilog na Bundok in Lobo, Bonliw and Luya in San Luis, Pansol in Taal, and San Jose in Tuy.

The construction of BHS will begin this November 2020 and they are expected to be turned over to the local government units (LGU) by February 2021.

Community health nurses were deployed to the areas to begin the 18-month implementation of the CBHWP.

A series of capacity-building sessions of local health workers and cluster leaders and community mobilizations will be conducted with the goal of empowering these communities in achieving health and wellness.

The program was kickstarted with the training needs assessment of barangay health workers (BHW) to determine areas for capacity-building.

The initial focus of the CBHWP was capacitating and mobilizing the BHWs and cluster leaders in the health promotion of the communities against COVID-19.

BHWs were trained on COVID-19 prevention, immune boosting practices, and proper handwashing. They were equipped with flipcharts to aid them in behavior change communication.

The CHNs along with the BHWs held health promotion sessions to the community.

Even in the time of a pandemic, HFI realizes the importance of health promotion and continues its mission of creating communities of wellness.
