Puerto Princesa City -15 barangay health workers (BHWs) from Barangay Inagawan actively participated in Health Futures Foundation, Inc.’s (HFI’s) Therapeutic and Preventive Acupressure Workshop last 18 June 2018.
The one-day workshop, facilitated by HFI’s Chairman and Integrative Medicine Practitioner Dr. Jaime “Doc Jimmy” Galvez Tan, introduced the origins of acupressure, the basic principles of acupressure, and the 12 acupoints for the management of common illnesses in the community such as body pains, constipation and diarrhea, urinary tract infection, and post-stroke complications. The BHWs were equipped with knowledge and skills on acupressure.
Post-test results revealed significant improvement of the BHWs’ knowledge and skills on acupressure techniques. Brgy. Councilor Annabel Franco, one of the participants, shared her excitement to apply her learning on acupressure or “magic touch” to her father suffering from post-stroke complications.
The Therapeutic and Preventive Acupressure Workshop is part of HFI’s Wellness Heroes Initiative that aims to empower BHWs in far flung rural areas to become teachers, leaders, and health services providers in their own communities. The Wellness Heroes Initiative has already been implemented in 2 ALAGA KA areas in Batangas and in Brgy. Inagawan, Puerto Princesa City, Palawan. It was made possible through HFI’s partner local and barangay government units, partners, and donors.
