Health Futures Foundation, Inc. response to COVID-19 crisis in partnership with Direct Relief.

HFI donated a total of five (5) RV200 mechanical ventilators to two (2) COVID-19 Centers in Metro Manila. These ventilators were donated in response to the COVID-19 crisis in the country and now being used by the patients in the critical care units needing mechanical ventilation.

Three (3) ventilators were given to the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) in Manila City while two (2) were given to the Lung Center of the Philippines (LCP) in Quezon City.

The ventilators for PGH were received by Dr. Christine Tan and Sir Randolf Vincent Sy of the University of the Philippines (UP) PGH Pulmonology Department last 03 April 2020.

On the other hand, the ventilators for LCP were received by Executive Director Dr. Idolor, Supplies Officer Liza Bernardo, Chief Respiratory Therapist Bidel Dionisio, and Biomed Officer Jandy Militante on the same day 03 April 2020.

As two of the biggest modern government tertiary hospitals in the country, PGH and LCP were designated as COVID-19 centers by the Department of Health (DOH) late March of 2020 to help fight in the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since their designation as COVID-19 centers, issues regarding capacity of PGH and LCP in terms of resources and manpower have been in question. The ventilators donation aims to help these two COVID-19 centers be equipped to continue serving their non-COVID-19 patients while fulfilling their roles as COVID-19 referral hospitals.

To date (14 May 2020), PGH has already discharged 125 COVID-19 patients with a total of 191 recovered/improved patients while LCP has a total of 114 recovered patients. In the Philippines, total confirmed cases have reached more than 11,000 cases with 790 dead and more than 2,300 recovered.

The ventilator donations were made possible by Direct Relief through HFI. Direct Relief continues to expand its coronavirus response efforts through the large-scale provision of personal protective equipment (PPE) and other medical essentials all over the world.
