Forty (40) Exercise Ambassadors and six (6) Rural Health Unit staff from the Municipality of Salcedo, Eastern Samar participated in an Exercise Workshop for Non-Communicable Diseases or NCD (e.g. diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular disease, and chronic respiratory disease last 27-28 June 2017 in Demo Farm, Naparaan, Salcedo, Eastern Samar.
Aside from learning the benefits, types, precautions, and dosages of exercises through the workshop prepared by HFI Physical Therapist Ms Michelle Fortea, the Exercise Ambassadors also received a lecture about NCDs—its causes, symptoms, prevention measures, and proper management for those who have acquired the disease—from Dr Madison Dominguez, NCD Project Medical Director.
At the end of the workshop, the Exercise Ambassadors were able to learn a five-minute exercise routine which they can teach in their respective barangays alongside a re-echo plan to guide them in promoting exercise to their community members.
Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) remain to be the top killers in the Philippines and the Exercise Workshop is part of the two-year Post-Haiyan Integrated NCD Prevention and Control Program in Salcedo, Eastern Samar funded by Direct Relief.
