Trees of Wellness project was successfully launched in 4 barangays in Samar and E. Samar.
HFI’s Trees of Wellness project was simultaneously launched in the four (4) barangays of Tag-alag and Tinabanan in Marabut, Samar; Asgad in Salcedo, Eastern Samar; and Cagdara-o in Guiuan, Eastern Samar last 07 – 08 May 2017.
Community members, local health workers, and local government officials gathered together for the ceremony and joined hand in hand to plant a total of 648 native medicinal, fruit-bearing and flowering plants and trees in the four (4) barangays.
“An Trees of Wellness project dako an mahibubulig ha amon barngay linabi na kadam-an han amon mga puno na-anod han Yolanda ngan aadi kami yana ha proseso han pag-recover ngan pangayad. Pinaagi han Trees of Wellness project, may-ada na kami yana mata-tagamtaman nga mga pampakusog, pampa-upay han lawas ngan sugad man han mga damo an nutrisyon nga mga pagkaon ngan bulong” (Trees of Wellness project will be a great help to our barangay especially that most of our trees were washed away during typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) and we are in the process of recovery and restoration. Through the Trees of Wellness project, we now have an easy access for a healthy and nutritious food and medicine) said Evangelina O. Bantilan, a barangay health worker in Cagdara-o.
The launching was attended by HFI Chairman Dr. Jaime Galvez Tan; Marabut Municipal Administrator Percival Ortillo; Salcedo Mayor Melchor Mergal; Salcedo Municipal Health Officer Dr. Ma. Socorro Campo; Guiuan Municipal Health Officer Dr. Ma. Socorro Flores; Marabut Councilor Judith Ortillo-Mark; and Barangay Chairmen Manuel Lledo (Tag-alag), Jun Gajuman (Tinabanan), Lauro Desoloc (Asgad), and Luis Ańano (Cagdara-o).
“Waray ko gud mahuna-hunai an bug-os nga kapas ngan importansya han usa nga puno, linabi na hiton iya abilidad para makabulong, hangtod ginpakilala an Trees of Wellness project. Nasulod ha akon imahinasyon kung gaano nga mag-uupay iton Marabut kun aton ig-uundong ngan namamaton an Trees of Wellness ha bug-os munisipyo” (I have never fully realized the importance of a single tree, especially its healing properties, not until the Trees of Wellness project has been introduced. I imagine how stunning Marabut would be if we will adopt the Trees of Wellness to the whole municipality) said Marabut Municipal Administrator Percival Ortillo Jr.
Trees of Wellness is an HFI initiative that aims to minimize the impact of global environmental change and at the same to provide wellbeing, nutrients, healing, and livelihood for the communities.
